Vista Home Premium

My new Laptop came preloaded with Vista Home Premiun Edition. I have been
told that this version of Windows cannot be directly connect to my office
Server's Domain (which is running SBS2000). Is this correct? If so, what
version of Vista do I need to get in order to connect to a Domain?

Thanks. jc

You will be able to connect to the server, by mapping a drive to a server
share. When you map the drive, choose the option to "connect using a
different user name" and enter your domain user credentials. Then you'll be
able to copy files back and forth between server and laptop, etc.

But, you cannot join your laptop machine to the domain. And you won't be
able to log on to the laptop using your domain user credentials.

For a domain situation, Vista Business or Ultimate are definitely better
options. But Vista Home doesn't totally prevent you from accessing the
server. Just makes it a bit more work and less seamless. You can upgrade
your existing Vista Home to Business or Ultimate, using Microsoft's "Anytime
Upgade" facility:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/default.mspx

You can compare the various Edition features, here:

Hope it helps,
