Vista Home Basic updates

Hello,

Please excuse me if this question is beneath "basic" - my daughter and I are
both novice users. My computer has Vista Home Premium, and once in a while it
shows me updates that were done. My daughter is going to college in
September, and a laptop was a requirement, so we purchased one through the
school. But it has Vista Home Basic, and seems quite different in behavior
from mine.
So my question is, where do we look to see what Windows updates have been
done?
Thanks!

Start/All Programs/Windows Update
On the left side click "View Update History"
This will not show updates installed manually, only those installed by
Windows Update.

Check the automatic Update settings:
On the Windows Update page, left side
Click "View Settings"
Different settings here can account for differences in installed
updates.

Click the Windows Update icon in Control panel. In the last section of the
window you will see 'Updates were installed:' along with a date and time.
Next to this is a blue link marked 'View Update History'. Click on this to
view the updates that have been applied to your PC

Just as an aside, I find it a bit odd that a computer bought through a
college for college work comes equipped with Home Basic. This does not have
the ability to connect to a domain based network, which is what I'd expect
to find on any college campus.

.... and Vista Business, which you would reasonably expect to see on many
business laptops, does not come with BitLocker drive encryption.

They are either stupid SOB's making these decisions, or take most users to
be.

You're Welcome!
