Unable to access Windows Vista

Hi
Would appreciate anyone's help.
My daughter's laptop has Windows Vista on it. She turned it on this
afternoon and got the following message:

Your windows vista home premium product key is entered incorrectly.
Options:
a) Access the computer with limited availability (Just leads to
internet)
b) Re enter product key (tried this and were unable to get to the site
to re enrer it - problem also we do no longer have the Windows Box
with product key!)
c) Contact Advent (makers of Laptop) for further help - Got on site
with FAQs, none applicable.

She had just entered a 1000 word essay for school tomorrow and is
panicing!!

Thanks

You are screwed without the key. Maybe see if you can boot Linux, then copy
out the file to a USB. But not something easy to teach in a NG like this.

If you are dependant on that horrid MS-Office program, OpenOffice will open
it. http://www.openoffice.org/

With open source, you don't worry about licensing hassles.

Hi,

Contact Advent, do not just peruse the FAQ but actually call their support.
Only they can provide you with a valid Product Key for the installation
since you have lost yours.

One more idea, disconnect the network. Then boot to Bios, changing the date
back into the period it worked. Boot, then get the document off. I can't
say I have tried this with Vista but might work.

Where does the OP say he knows anything about Linux? In other words
here, this is useless advice.

1) Open an Internet Explorer browser window.
2) Type %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd
%windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to
complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
12) You may be required to Re-Activate. Use the Activate by Phone method
as outlined here:

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in:
slui.exe 4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.
5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Was Windows Vista pre-installed when you purchased the laptop? If so,
the product key label should be somewhere on the outside of the
computer, probably on the bottom. It'll be a series of 25 characters
in groups of five separated by hyphens.

No, you are useless and kind of worthless here with a one track mind.

Sure MS is a useless OS for a retard like yourself. You should stick with
Ubuntu. More your style.

You probably can't figure out Vista. Better take a class. Come back in 12
weeks.
