Vista firewire speed issue

I started a drag and drop of just over 200gb of movies from a 250gb PATA in
an external firewire box to a new 500gb SATA running at 3ghz.

Estimated duration of transfer was 2 hours, 20 minutes and that seems to be
fairly accurate.

That comes down to, if I do my math correct, about 27mbytes per second.
1394a is 400mbytes (bytes, not bits right??) and 1394b is 800mbytes. I
have only 1gb of memory and have more on order. That figure of 27mbytes
seems to slow.

Anyway, I see where there are some 1394b PCI-e 1X adapters available. I
recall that XP did not use that 800 speed and actually dropped to 100 for
"network firewire".

Was wondering about Vista and 1394b? Anyone using any of those 800mb
devices?

No, I'm afraid it's bits.
27MB/s for an external Firewire drive is not great, but it's about what I
usually get with XP.
eSATA should do quite a bit better, but you don't see many of those yet.
