I have Windows Vista and am using the email program provided. I am unable to
open *.pdf files from within the email program. Outside of the mail program,
they open fine. Acrobat Reader is associated to *.pdf files but the email
program does not see this. Any helop would be appreciated.

Did you enable opening of attachments?
Tools > Options > Security > uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

I think its a known issue with pdf files. You have to save them to disk
first.

Confirmed, I just tested this and it does not work (opening a .pdf
attachment within WM). Also, the error message is misleading
in that it refers to a Set Associations control panel, but there is no
such animal in Control Panel.

I've spent ages looking for that too and I've come to the conclusion
that Control Panel>Default Programs>Set Associations
might be one and the same.
