Vista Drivers for Epson

Andy

I am so angry today I have been onto Epson Europe technical support chat
service asking about Epson Scan drivers for a DX5000 all-in-one to which the
technical support woman said the vista drivers were due to be out in January
but are held back and should be available in the first quarter of 2007 which
is no good if they come out in April.

Effectively I have bought this Epson DX5000 printer off the shelf. Epson
have told me not to use the drivers out of the box, they have advised me to
download the drivers off their website, but there is no drivers available
for the Epson Scan, my customer wants to be able to scan her photos into her
new PC and Epson have told me not to use the XP drivers for Epson scan
because of compatibility problems and may make the PC unstable. So what a
bloody mess this all is.

Now, Vista has been out (albeit in Beta Mode) for ages now so why have Epson
not been working and testing on this drivers fully since then if they had
it might have been ready for when the final release of Vista came out.
Meanwhile I am expected by them to keep checking back at their website from
time to time and wait for the Epson Scan driver for this DX5000 to become
available to download. I don't know how I am going to explain this to my
customer who is an elderly woman and wont have a clue what all this is about
and will not understand how they are selling a product in the shops which
wont work fully on new PC's loaded with Vista.

Why when Microsoft was producing Vista could they not have made it to 100
percent fully work with XP drivers? - and why weren't Epson fully testing
their Vista drivers before now?

I have an HP all-in-one and they claim that basic functionality works out of
the box. The way it was worded, I took it to mean that I can print, scan,
and fax from Windows with the built-in windows programs. However, none of
the HP "value-added" functions would work until they came out with drivers.
Since I rarely use these HP functions, I didn't sweat it.

You don't mention what version you have but in Business or Ultimate, try
using the Windows Fax and Scan.

Also, if this is a new purchase, I would return it and get something that
has drivers in the box.

Not that it helps Epson and HP customers, but I have got full functionality
with both my 18 month old IP5200 bubblejet printer and 8 month on Lide 600F
scanner.

They were both a breeze to install.

Andy:
I can't find a listing for a DX5000. If you mean CX5000 all-in-one,
there are Vista x86 & x64 printer & twain drivers listed on the Epson USA
site. I haven't tried these drivers because I don't have that model. Have a
great day.

it was suggested to me for my 3810 to
UNPACK the drivers but do not install them.
use the Device Manager Update Driver function and point to the location where you unpacked the files.
when done, reboot and it should install the scanner drivers automatically.
did for me.

Thanks I might try it that way. I still have to find an answer about turning
off the compatibility message should it pop up. Anyone got any ideas how to
disable the compatibility wizard on Vista?

I'm using old HP Software that uses TWAIN with my SJ5P scanner and it
works fine. However the FAX & SCAN does not drive the scanner -- I have
to use the HP Deskscan software that sets up the TWAIN but tht doesn't
inconvenience me.

Sorry about that, I was looking at US models not UK models. The
printer drivers are the same for the US CX5000 and the UK DX5000 which
means that the US twain (scanner) drivers may work on the UK DX5000. The
download link for the CX5000 twain driver & scan utility v2.96a is:

I was surprised to see the scan utility on the US Epson website but not
added to the Epson Europe support site.

Installed latest Vista driver for Epson Scanners (I have 3170). Installed
fine, but the Epson Scan application crashes. Spoke with Epson support who
could not solve the problem - and the person I spoke with seemed very
competent. I installed Vista over XP on a relatively new maching, so this
could be an interaction with other software.

Has anyone seen this problem?

Thanks

I have a epson 4870 photo scanner that has also been reduced to a very basic
scanner via the WIA driver provided by windows. When I attempt to use the
newly released Epson driver specific for my scanner I get an error message
that the wrong scanner is connected and to connect the correct one.
Maddening!! Any suggestions for getting TWAIN to work?

Hi Andy

Not sure if you have sorted out your problem with scanning on Vista - but
try VueScan... www.hamrick.com.

Supports over 700 scanners and works with Vista - so could help a lot of
people.
