Looking for a Vista compatible scanner utility

I'm looking for something nice and simple, that will allow me to scan
documents, slides and negatives. I have an Epson Perfection 1650 scanner
that is about three or four years old (I forget exactly) that works fine but
Epson has no scanner utility that will work with it and Vista. I have an
Epson driver that is Vista compatible installed and the scanner works with
Adobe Photoshop Elements and also Windows Photo Gallery.

The scanner can scan slides so I would like to find some software that would
make that process as virtually painless as the Epson software that ran under
Windows XP. Freeware would be preferable.

I have an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner that does all that and the included
software works fine with Vista Home Prem.

Have you checked the Epson website for updates of the software that
originally came with the scanner?

Usually you can obtain these updates free of charge; so they may well
have the Vista version available, if the scanner is not too old.

A search on Google found this:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/..._UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14552&infoType=Downloads

This is the link for the Vista Drivers; this could suggest the existing
original (scanning) software works with the scanner in Vista (no harm in
trying it; it will either work or it won't.).
