Compatability Vista vs Scanner

I have WinXP SP2. I ran the Vista Upgrade Adviser to see if everything on
my computer would run under Vista. It said my Epson Perfection 2400 scanner
wouldn't work with Vista. I clicked on the M/S link provided with that
advisory and downloaded a driver that I assumed would make my scanner work
with Vista. I installed it, rebooted, and ran the Adviser again. It still
says my scanner won't work with Vista.

Any suggestions? (other than buy a new scanner).

Darrell,
Out of the box Vista will not support the Epson Perfection 2400 scanner.
However Epson has provided updated scanner drivers for Vista on its web site
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...kie=yes&type=highlights&noteoid=86150#scanner

(if the link doesn't work start at www.epson.com, and work your way to
support drivers etc)

You will need to do the update after you install Vista, I recommend you have
the scanner 'off' while doing the install.
Fetching the drivers, then turning the scanner on (unless the driver
installation specifically states otherwise, sometimes during the install it
wants to see the device to detect which port it is on).

You need to install the updated driver after you install Vista. Most likely
what will happen is after you install Vista, it will pick up the Epson
driver the first time you run Windows Update. If not, Vista drivers for
that scanner can be manually downloaded and installed from
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...=21643926&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows.

Thanks again for the info. BTW does Vista have the capability to run
programs in a compatibility mode for older Windows versions like WinXP does?
I have an aircraft ground school program that wouldn't run in XP but I made
a shortcut to that program and used Properties... Compatibility Tab to run
it as a Win 2000 program which allowed it to work properly.

Yes it does. Just right click the file, go to properties and the
compatibility tab. Works similar to the one in XP. Another thing that you
might try is right clicking the file and select "Run as Administrator". Some
older applications require admin rights to work correctly. With both of
those, you shouldn't have a problem.
