Vista dosen't start after reboot

When a new program (from windows update or other programs) is installed that
requires reboot. The computer doesn’t start after reboot. It seems like the
hard drive stops after a few seconds. Sometimes i can get so far that i can
see the options to start the computer in safe mode, sometimes it have already
been shut down before that. So I have to keep power it up until I am lucky to
have such long time before it shuts down that it can run trough the whole
start up of safe mode.
In safe mode I can't find any errors for any device or driver. The only
thing for me to do is go back to an old restore point, then the computer
works normally again. When it is like this I can’t install any new programs,
devises or updates that requires reboot.

Please help me.

Update the BIOS on your machine and make sure that antivirus is snoozed
during the installation process.
