Vista boots after midnight

Hello.

I'm using Vista Ultimate on my notebook since about two months and
every time when I set Vista into hibernate mode over night, it wakes
up by itself between midnight and me waking up (don't know when
exactly), causing the battery being nearly empty the next day.

Does anyone have an idea why this happens and how to stop it?

Unlike suspend mode, in hibernate mode, data in RAM is written to the hard
disk and the laptop is actually powered off, thus it is not Vista that is
turning it back on, as it has no control over the laptop when it's powered
off. Look in your BIOS setup for an auto power on setting and disable it.

Marco, also look in "Scheduled Tasks" to see if you have a program scheduled
to start at that time: Anti-virus Updates, Defrag, etc

A scheduled task cannot turn a computer on when it is off or in hibernation
state (which is off as far as the PC hardware is concerned).

There was one task in the Vista task sheduler which had set the option
"reactivate computer for performing the task" (I have a German
installations and don't which whether I've translated it exactly as it
is called in Vista. The option is on the conditions tab for a task.
The task is TMM, which is responsible for usage of more than one
monitor. I've unset this option but it didn't work.

I had no look into it's BIOS yet, but I don't know which setting it
could be, because I've unplugged all cables including second monitor,
network and power. So Wake on LAN should not work, WLAN was not
activated when turning into hibernate mode. I'll the BIOS settings and
try that this night.

Hello again.

I've checked my BIOS settings. It is a Phoenix BIOS and the only
things which can be changed there are system time, boot devices, boot
order and two or three other options which cannot cause that problem.

Does anyone have an idea now?

This is a silly question, but sometimes the obvious is overlooked. Are
you SURE that the computer is hibernating and not sleeping?

Hello Stephan,

YES I am. When I turn it into the "safe enegery" mode, after a short
time (which obviously is needed to write the RAM content to disk) all
lights including disk and power are off, only the baatery loading
light might still be on. At the next morning when I wake up power
light is blinking which indicates sleeping mode.

Therefor it must have changed it's state from hibernate mode to sleep
mode by itself, because I have'nt done it and no other person had
access the it.
