Vista and Office

I have attempted to download trials of MS Office 2007, (Works came
pre-installed with my new PC, but I do not like it. I cannot get OUTLOOK TO
WORK ON THIS COMPUTER. Is the 2007 version of Office Vista compatible? I
do own Office XP, subject to getting a serial number from Microsoft, will
Office XP run on Vista Home Premium?

No. It's gotta be 2003 or 2007. So, not only did you get to pay an
outrageous amount for Vista, now it's time to buy Office at another
outrageous amount, even though your Office XP worked fine with Windows
XP. Unless you're rich and don't care what you spend your money on, I
would roll back to XP but YMMV.

Bullshit! For the most part, Office XP will run fine on Vista. Try
installing it in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

That's not true about Office XP. The only issue that I am aware of,
Outlook 2002 will not remember email passwords after reopening
the program.

What part isn't included in "most"?

So, it won't remember email account passwords and works for the "most
part". Doesn't sound like it works properly to me.

Like you said what?
You don't have Vista cause you can't afford to purchase it.
So stop posting advice, the wrong advice I might add, about how it works
and what works with it.

Well, Michael wrote and I quote: "Outlook 2002 will not remember email

You don't have Vista cause you can't afford to purchase it.

A lie.

You want me to stop. I won't. So, how does it feel to want and not get?

Well, I can't speak for Outlook or Powerpoint, but I have the Word and Excel
programs from Office 97 Pro installed on Vista Home premium and running just
fine wothout a hitch. In fact (chuckle) in all the years I've been using
them they've never looked so good!.

I'd be grateful for your advice on how you have made it work well. I have
two annoying issues... 1. the office assistant is unreliable and I can't
change the "character" (I want the character Links) 2. Dragging & dropping
pictures e.g. into a Powerpoint presentation, shows only a placeholder icon,
not the picture itself. I have to use an insert command each time, which is
a bind.

TIA James :)

Like you said...was false information, as usual. Office XP works fine under
Vista. If there is a BUG I'm sure it'll get fixed. We don’t use Outlook so
obviously we aren't seeing that bug. Also, that BUG is seen with Outlook
2003 as well. Also, not everyone has that problem with Office XP and Vista.

@oldtone, do you need Outlook? If not then install away. If you do, well,
Outlook might still work. You wont know until you try.

Thank you gentlemen, all, It sems I have two options, and I might try
installing Office XP in "XP COMPATIBILITY MODE" Can anyone tell me how to
do that? I should explain that I'm and old fartie and don't like anything
too techie and Microsoft help system is not the best. Mys second
alternative is to use my laptop with XP and Office XP Pro.
It's all about MS WORKS! Does Windows mail contacts behave like OUTLOOK
and can you do a mail-merge in Works word processor? I have never got to
know WORKS that well and like OFFICE.
Anyway, off to phone Microsoft now to get a product code for my XP
instakkation disk, wish me luck.

Hi Justin

Only Office 2003 and 2007 are compatible with Vista. All other previous versions will install but will have numerous issues. Although they will work they will not work correctly and as intended. A prime example is as below which is Outlook. And no MS will not get around to fixing these issues concerning Office versions previous to version 2003 in Vista.

Office XP does not have numerous problems running in Vista.
As I said, Outlook not remembering email account passwords
is the only issue I am aware of. While that can be annoying,
depending on the user and how many email accounts they have,
I personally don't think that flaw should be reason enough to
ditch an expensive program. As long as a user keeps Outlook
open, the email passwords will be remembered. If the user wants
to upgrade to Office 2007 and it's in his budget to do so, that is
his prerogative. After some initial resistance, I have actually come to
like Office 2007, I now have it installed on three Vista machines.
Office 2003 still resides on the XP partitions of three machines, and after
today, this computer will no longer have an XP partition. That retail
copy of Office will be given to my uncle.

I know it sounds silly, but it's a bit sad that I will be letting go of
one of my XP partitions. Especially, since this is my primary machine.
TOD will begin at approximately 2 p.m. (EST).
That copy of XP Pro will live on in a virtual machine, though.

Alias will be thrilled to know what I have planned for some
of that freed partition space.

Anyway, sorry for straying off-topic.... again.

There's a couple problems with that:

1. Many tens of thousands of people are using it with no problems.

2. The only problem of Outlook I can find is also a problem with OL2003.

MS will sometimes claim no more support however if enough businesses scream,
it'll get fixed.
