Vista and iTunes

Everytime I load the newest version of iTunes 7.6 on my HP DV 9000 running
Vista the CD-DVD stops working, it disappears and don't even see it when
opening Explore. When I look in the Control Panel Device Manager there's an
Exclamation mark next to the CD-DVD drive and says drive is not working
Properly. As soon as I uninstall iTunes the drive returns. Does any one have
a fix for this - iTunes doesn't !

Thanks

Version 7.6 has numerous issues. Yesterday I had to roll back to 7.5
so that Audio would work on a Vista system with SigmaTel HD. Last
time I checked the iTunes forums the issue was still being investigated.
After uninstalling 7.6, it may be a good idea to rename the database
modules before installing a previous version. I read that the 7.6 .Itl &
..xml can't be used with a previous version of iTunes. Anyway after I
took the customers machine back to an earlier iTunes the audio works.

Thanks for the feedback - I have tried all of the above. I have been to the
iTunes forum and there are numerous people with the same issue. There must be
a work around.

The problem is that 7.6 is nasty, and full of quirks and bugs. Not likely
to be a work around until Apple fixes it. I absolutely refuse to install
it. 7.6 has also toasted many Ipods and Iphones.

You say 7.6 has toasted iPods and iPhones?

My niece's iPod has given up the ghost since 7.6 but that may be
coincidental.

Is there any documentation about this?

Nothing formal, but on Apple's iTunes forum there is a post titled
"iTunes 7.6 keeps freezing up" that has 4000+ views, 133 posts &
a single "Solved" post.

It's getting to the point, where a computer user is going to have to
disable ALL automatic updates and wait for a few days to be sure
the update or patch doesn't break something else. I have a list of a
number of new apps ( AdAware 2007, Spybot 1.5 and others )
that have all kinds of "Quirky" issues associated with them.

The apple forums are full of documentation. Plus, the recent firmware
updates for IPods and Iphones has messed things up quite a bit.
