itunes on Windows Vista no longer works

I recently purchased an ipod 80 gb player and was using it to transfer
music from my cds with Itunes 7.1 on my vista 32 pc (HP Pavilion
a1730n) for 2 weeks with no problems. I then started downloading some
video podcasts onto my ipod using itunes and started to have problems
with the operating system crashing in the middle of a download (the
blue screen of death with pop up - causing me to reboot my computer by
holding down the power button).

Now itunes will not open up at all. When I try to open itunes I get a
pop up informing me that "ITunes has stopped working A problem caused
the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program
and notify you if a solution is available." This message comes up
everytime I try to open ITunes.

I tried uninstalling both ITunes and Quicktime and then reinstalling
but Itunes still will not open. I even tried a system restore, but
that didn't work either.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with ITunes and found a
solution? Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks.

I have the same problem. I am running Vista Ultimate, and iTunes 7.1.x (the
latest version of iTunes, that I re-downloaded yesterday. I cannot run
help/about to see the version, since iTunes wont run.)

For several weeks, iTunes ran fine. I was a happy camper.

But then it crashed a few days ago, and it never recovered. Whenever I try
to run iTunes, it displays only a dialog box saying ""ITunes has stopped
working" with all the same wording as the person below saw. If I reboot
Vista, then usually iTunes will work for a few mintutes, but soon it will
stop and display that same error message. And until I reboot, I get the same
error whenver I try to run iTunes. I tried reinstalling iTunes, but no luck
there.

Recommended fixes would be greatly appreciated.

I finally gave up trying to get itunes to work. I'm now using an
application called anapod which is made by red chair software
(www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/). It's a good alternative to itunes
in that it lets you transfer your music and video from your pc to your
ipod. However, it is not quite as user-friendly as itunes and you
can't use it to purchase new content. It costs about $25 and it will
allow you to continue to use your ipod until vista and itunes can
learn to co-exist.
