Vista and IE7 and NOAA

Can anyone come up with a reason that IE7 won't load any pages from this site
when you click a location on the map ?

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/

For example... click on Pennsylvania, and you get this link and error...
ONLY in Vista/IE7... works fine in XP and all other browsers... ???

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/ctp/

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's
domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options,
click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled
under the security section.

The eastern US is DNS'ing - from Ohio to Maine to North Carolina,
not just Harrisburg - when I click the NOAA map. IE7 Vista RC1.
WinMail sends my reply and says it didn't - gives me a stutter. The
easiest way not to post twice is not use Vista. So you say that the
east coast weather will return to being there if I do not use Vista?

Works fine here in NYC.
(using XP and OE)

I'm in Chicago. Using Vista RC1 clicking through to north of Georgia
or east of Indiana from http://www.nws.noaa.gov gets a DNS even if
I change IE7 to report that it is IE6 or use firefox. When I switch to
IE6 on XPsp2, clicking through to east coast states works fine.

"mtgb" reported it as an IE7 problem in Vista. A couple posters said
they didn't have the problem. "mtgb" said that the problem did not occur
in any other browser or in XP. Can you give it a whirl in Vista using IE7?

That's pretty bizarre. Sounds like your ISP is doing something that is IE6
only, although for the life of me I can't imagine what or why.

I don't know, I'm just adding to JohnD's voice that says "mtgb" is not alone
in having this weird problem using Vista with NOAA. Since JohnD is using
fios.verizon.net 71.254.180.246 in California and I am using
24-136-25-194.hnc-bsr1.chi-hnc.il.cable.rcn.com, it's more likely a Vista
than an ISP problem. "mtgb" used the CDO to post, so no info on his ISP.

Evidently, most people using Vista do not have the problem. Possibly, since
I set my Vista beta to allow reporting back to Microsoft, if I reinstalled
or
found some other way to disable that, the problem would cease, but I don't
think the size of the problem merits trying that solution. I'm not curious.

OK. I didn't realize more than one person was having the problem.

Still, it's pretty friggin bizarre!

Apparent annihilation of the east coast - it would be on the news.
Since it hasn't happened, why should I let it bother me?

I get your page with a popup notice. I didn't allow the popup, but the page

Well, we really should tally up which version of vista you guys are using
and which versions have the problem. I visit the site fine in RTM, and a few
others have said the same.

I'm thinking that this might be a RC1 problem, but not sure...

NOAA switched to a new server sometime this month. They switched from IWINS to weather.gov in case you didn't realize it. You may want to contact NOAA or the National Weather Service like I am going to do about all of the links on the Pittsburgh /curwx.htm website, because they still link to the IWINS website instead of the new weather.gov website and are coming up as dead links. Maybe if you report it to both Microsoft and NOAA/NWS they can solve the problem before the Commercial release of VISTA next month.
