OK. I am running thin clients with XPe on a University campus. On
this network, I 'have' to allow students to plug their laptops into the
network.

So, within about 30 seconds of a laptop being connected, they are
flooding my network with ARP packets from a virus. This then infects
ALL the XPe thin clients this slowing them down.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Is there AV software or a
firewall that I could install onto the thin clients?

Thanks.

Installing new software on existing XPe image could be a very tough and labourous effort.
You may be better off creating and re-deploying a new image.

Building a new image you can consider new SP2 firewall features or look at the SP1 ICF
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnxpesp1/html/icf_enable.asp,
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnxpesp1/html/icf_advACI.asp).

Also, there are some 3rd party products available for XPe: Sygate firewall software
(http://www.sygate.com/solutions/xpe-solutions.php) and eTrust Antivirus from CA
(http://www.windowsfordevices.com/news/NS8900491022.html).

You also have alot of Hardware Appliances that will take
care of these type of issues as well. Here is one that
you might want to consider.

This is from Trend Micro:
