Virus or normal process?

My brand dnew (6months) old computer runs very -very
slowly. (WinXP home) When I hit CTRL-AlT-Del to see whats
running I see that something called "system idle process"
is using 98 or 99% of the system resources. Is this
normal? I have scanned w/Norton recently and that doesn't
help.

Yes, this is normal. What it is saying, is that the cpu is idle (that
is, not in use) 98 - 99% of the time.

In "system idle processes", idle is the key word. It means that you have
98/99% of your resources free. That's the way it should be. As far as the
slow operation goes, download, install, update and run the two free spyware
applications from the links below. Do a disk cleanup and de-frag. Disable
any un-needed programs from run at boot.

System Idle Process is exactly what it sounds like.
It is the % of processing power you have waiting for something to do,
doing nothing.

If you are having problems, this is not the cause.

Your system idle process is telling you just what your computer is doing,
when it says 98% CPU usage that means your pc is doing nothing.When your pc
is not doing anything it will say 98-99%.
