processes

My machine 'freezes' - during normal operation. Using
Windows Task Manager I have determined that a process
called System Idle Process is paging through all the other
processes running as I suppose some check.
The result of this is use up to a max of 98% CPU. The
conxequent effect is that all operations either freeze or
run VERY SLOWLY!
How do I terminate this (the cancel button on Windows Task
Manager doesn't have rights for this process) or how do I
get rid of it(can I?)

HELP, I am going slowly nuts

System idle process is not using any of the cpu it is telling you have much is available. If you will click on the performance tab while your system is idle you should see how much cpu is being used. If you system has slowed down it is something else , like running programs, maybe virus or spyware - adware.
