D

DavidMatyas

I think I got a virus recently.
I cant access certain websites like ebay,amazon,and microsoft. I cant
even access symantec to download an update to my anti viurs scanner
(which got uninstalled).

I am not sure if this also has something to do with it, but when i goto
run and i type cmd, it opens, but exits right away.

Any suggestions would be most apreciative.

This problem's weird! It may be a virus, so do backup your important data in
CDs or diskettes first. After that, consult your computer for a repair. Hope
that will help!

See if you can boot in Safe Mode (pressing the F8 key while booting.) Then
scan for viruses.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/downloads/default.mspx
There are some malwares that can destroy the internet connection when you
try to remove them.That's why you may get that program that could restore
your internet connectiºn.
I haven't tried it but lots of people like them.

Win Sock XP Fix

2. Create a back-up of all your critical information
This is just an optiºn.
You should check it for viruses lªter.

3. Run a Firewªll
has integrated firewall -
Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) for SP1 and Windows Firewall (WF) for SP2

They do not have integrated firewall ,they have to use software firewªll.

!!! Use only 1 firewªll !!!

4. Windows Updates
Connect to internet and download all the security updates - Critical updates
with Express instªll.

Start -> Windows Updªtes
or

@ Scan with

Panda Software free Active Scan,where you can check your PC for ALL TYPES of

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

@ Install the antivirus softwªre

Boot in Safe Mode and install the antivirus software
<In Safe Mode,because there are viruses that have the ability to damage an
antivirus while installing it>

How to boot your computer in Safe Mºde

Do this by repeatedly typing F8 while Windows is starting before Windows
logo appeªrs.
Then you'll open the BIOS menu where you can choose to boot the hard drive
in SAFE MODE

(If you are XP user ,find more about Safe Mode in Help and Support Center
; Start-Help and Supºrt)

@ Update the antivirus and scan with it

Boot in Normal Mode and update it.
Make sure you have all functions ON
(scanning all files,heuristic,disinfect,scanning for other threªts...)

Perform a full scan in Normal Mode first
Then boot in Safe Mode and also perform a scªn

@ While still in Safe Mode,scan with these

and remove the junk
!!! They must have already been updªted !!!

When the scan is finished,
DO NOT restart ,if you have Win XP or ME

Because of the fact malware is a progrªm,
System Restore also stores all malware tracks and when restarting,it can
replicate some infected system stuff and the malware will be bªck !!!
So you need to delete all the restore points before restªrting :
Check Turn off system restore.Click ºK

11. For better performance ,it is advisable to check your hard drives for

Then right click on the hard drive you want to check -> Properties -> Tools
In the error-checking area ,click "Check now" to start the prºcess.

Non-viral malware

Please download, install and update the following software...

Ad-aware SE v1.06
http://www.lavasoft.de/
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode.

I also suggest downloading, installing and updating BHODemon for any Browser Helper Objects
that may be on the PC.

BHODemon

Viral malware

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

It is a self-extracting ZIP file that contains the Kixtart Script Interpreter {
http://kixtart.org Kixtart is CareWare } 4 batch files, 6 Kixtart scripts, one Link
(.LNK) file, a PDF instruction file and two utilities; UNZIP.EXE and WGET.EXE. It will
simplify the process of using; Sophos, Trend, Kasperski and McAfee Anti Virus Command Line
Scanners to
remove viruses, Trojans and various other malware.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode. This
way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor’s web site. The choices are;
Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file.

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

There is a file that is called host that handles the internet like a block
ing websites. Look for this file and it can be edited by note pad and remove
the websites that are listed in there. You might have to scroll down and
look for them.
You also want to look for a file called scrigz.exe it will be in the
c:\windows \system32 \ delete this file only !

That file is the virus !
Good luck ! If you have trouble call 1 877-869-3914
that is your tech online they help me out. For the same problem!

I agree !

If one copies text verbatim, one should at least give credit to the original author.
