virtual PC and windows vista

Hi, I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium on my home computer. I
have set up a virtual machine that runs Windows XP pro on it. I can't get
the XP to access the internet. I have tried to set up a network, and allow
the program through the firewall, but I get no connection. How can I share
my internet connection to my virtual PC using Windows Vista?

If this is the free VPC 2007 from MS, then it's simple. One of the
setup options is for networking. If you just want Internet access
then set the network in the VM options to use NAT. This way, your
host computer becomes the DHCP & DNS server and gateway for the VM.

If you want the VM to appear on you local network also, then use the
setting that uses your real network card in the host PC. This way the
VM will use whatever DHCP, DNS and gateway your host computer uses, but
will have a different IP address than your host computer. It will
appear to your network as just another computer.

I had the same question. Searched "virtual pc" and this was the first
question I read. Saw your answer. Set the Networking option in Settings in
the Virtual PC Console to the NAT option. Works like a charm. Thank you! Is
this a great community or what?

This is really a VPC question... you'd stand a better chance of getting
experience replies were this posted in microsoft.public.virtualpc. (That's
not to say there aren't experienced VPC'ers in this ng... not by a long
shot. Still... at the very least, you should try that ng -too-.)
