virtual memory

Hello!

Where can I find the setting to adjust the virtual memory?
I'm getting a warning message telling me the virtual memory is too low: it's
been happening for a week now, 3-4 times a day.
Also, what is the right setting for that?

Thanks for your help,

Steffo

Here are the instructions you need, taken from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837869 :

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

4. On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.

5. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging
file that you want to change.

6. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to select the System
managed size check box, and then click Set.

7. Click OK three times.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Click Start, and then select/click the Control Panel option.
Next click on the 'System' icon..
In the 'System Properties' windows click on the 'Advanced tab'.
Locate the box titled 'Performance' and click on the 'Settings' button
In the 'Performance Options' select the 'Advanced' tab.
Near the bottom you will see a box labeled 'Virtual Memory', click on the
'Change' button.
In the 'Under Drive [Volume Label]' column, select the drive that contains
the paging
file that you want to change the size or to create a page file.
In the 'Paging file size for selected drive' box , click to select the
'System managed size' check box (this is the recommended default), and then
click Set.
If you decide to choose the 'Custom size' option,
then make certain that the 'Initial size' and 'Maximum size' values are at
least 1.5 times the actual
amount of ram memory in your PC as a starting point.
Click the OK button 3 times to exit.

You will need to 'Restart' the computer for the changes to take effect.

The free space on my hard drive is 8 GB (out of 40 GB).
I can get rid of some music and pics if needed: please advise.

Free space on your hard drive?
8 GB free will be enough for the time being. You really ought to consider
replacing that 40 GB drive.
After you enable "system managed size" for the pagefile, see how much XP
needed to add.
