virtual memory

Whenever I used my pc, sometimes it will comes out a sign
telling me that the virtual memory is low, could any one
guide me what is the maximum and minimum setting that I
need to set? I'm using win xp.

may be relevant. I have heard reports that NAV 2004 can also cause
this, but no confirmation of this
