No, I'm not laughing, you reported just what I asked for. You can find
your way around just fine, you should be able to get through this. I
sort of knew before I asked what the answer would be, that's because by
default Windows sets the initial pagefile to 1.5 times RAM and maximum
to 3 times. But I wanted a confirmation from your part.
Unfortunately you gave me the hard answer, if the maximum had been set
at less than 768 I would have told you to change it. So now that idea
is down the drain. Now I have no solid idea as to what the problem is,
your pagefile appears to be properly configured for most average pc and
you have plenty of free space. There appears to be no physical damage
to the pagefile because you would have other problems if such was the
case. Maybe this is a browser issue? Internet Explorer bug? IE is an
application that I just don't bother with so I can't say, maybe an IE
pro can comment.
Other than that and while we wait for one of the resident experts to
offer further advice all I can think of is that you may have background
applications or services consuming the virtual memory. Can you check on
your running processes and report back? Use the Task Manager
(Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and look at the "Processes" tab, what is running? Can
you post the list so that we can examine things a bit more closely?
There might be malware or spyware involved here.
Also can you check on what Windows actually reports on the pagefile
usage? Click on "Start" Button>Programs>Administrative
Tools>Performance. You might want to maximize the resulting
"Performance" window to make it easier to navigate. On the right main
panel on the toolbar you will see a button with a "+" (Add (Ctrl-I)).
Click on +, an "Add Counter" screen will popup, in the "Performance
object" box select "Paging file". In the radio buttons under the
performance object select "All counters" & "All instances". Now click
on "Add" at the upper right and close the "Add counters" windows. Now
click on the Notepad icon (View Report (Ctrl-R)) next to the "+". You
will now see 2 lines that read "% Usage" & "% Peak". Can you post the
values here?
In the meantime maybe someone else has an easy fix for what may end up
to be a minor bug.
