Virtual machine question

Lord Of The Flies

Hi
I am running connectix (now microsoft) virtual machine under XP pro. XP is
fully patched and i run an up to date copy of NIS 2003. I have copies of
Win98SE, Win Me, Win 2000 pro & SuSE linux 7.1. All run without problem. All
guest OS's are fully patched and up to date.

My question is : Do I still need to run anti virus and firewall progs on
each of the guest systems as well as the host system. I understand that
win9x systems may be vulnerable to different exploits than NT based systems,
hence them being fully patched.

I cannot find reference to this particular issue in the program
documentation.

Kind regards

Sie

Hi,

Short answer: Yes *if* they are connected to the internet through the
virtual networking and are used for internet activity. Each virtual machine
that is allowed to use the virtual networking will recieve its own IP and
connection to 'net. While the host system may be protected, it will not
extend to the guests outside of shard folders and/or drives.
