Views on tiny scratch on new tft

Hi,

What's the view on tiny marks/scratches on new tfts?

I bought a tft monitor last week which arrived last Thursday - the tft model
is in short supply so I am told.

I noticed it has a tiny scratch in the middle to top left corner. Some
people tell me I should get it replaced (i.e. get my money back as there is
a shortage of tfts at the moment and then order a new unit later on.).
Others say "Oh, well, you can't get perfect tfts so you might end up with
one that is worse - for example, with dead pixels in the centre!".

Does anyone have any views on this? Am I being pedantic or should I expect
better quality?

Thanks,

John.

I don't think your being pedantic at all. Send it back.

If you buy something new it should be new and flawless.

This could be likened to my purchase of a motoX bike a few months ago. The
one they brought out had a minor (almost unseeable) ding in the tank. I
didn't like it. The saleman argued that it would have plenty more dings
before too long if I was going to ride it and I shouldn't be buying a bike
like that to leave it in the garage.

I argued that I wanted a new bike and wanted to know all the dings in the
bike are from my doing (with a story to go behind it).

Thanks for the view - I am now told there is a worldwide shortage of tfts
and several manufacturers are defaulting on delivery dates. I am told that
if I send it back the supplier is not due to have this make/model back in
until MID-MARCH at the earliest!

I have to wonder about their quality control if they have such demand. On a
different note, I bought a Phillips digital phone this week and was simply
amazed by the build, design and quality of the product. Why on earth can't
PC kit makers get near the level of quality of the major electronics' firms
like Sony and Phillips, etc.

Send it back and replace it with something similiar, don't need the same
brand, you can probably find the exact same item under a different brand
name.

I'd go with the second advice, I'd rather have a small scratch on the corner
then dead pixels in the middle of the screen.

If for one moment your thinking about keeping a defective product that you paid full price for, without even finding out what the
manufacturer will do for you, is nonsense. Settling for a scratch rather than some other defect is even worse advice.Seems to me the
product is less than desirable.

Just to let you all know that I finally got the vendor to pick up the tft
yesterday - be interesting if they deduct the carriage from my credit card
when they refund me the money. It was quite a hassle to get them to pick it
up though according to UK Law.

I also had an email from the manufacturer - IIYAMA - who apologised and said
that the tft would not have been allowed past their quality testing so
believe that the damage happened in handling.

Trying to order a tft at present is a nightmare. Here in the UK virtually
all vendors are giving mid to late March as the earliest time to get new
stock in - unless you want a model which is 12 months old or more.
