Viewing IP addresses of Macs

How can I see the ip addresses of the Macs on my server?
If I check the WINS database, I can find all the pcs, but
not the MACS. Whenever I have a conflict of IP addresses
I can't see the mac. Is there something that can be done
on the Mac? Or can I do something on my servers. I have
both NT and 2000 servers.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi Lois!

You're looking in WINS when you should be looking in DHCP.

WINS is the Windows Internet Naming System and is a system for Windows
clients to self-report and lookup Netbios names to IP addresses. Macs
aren't Netbios machines.

Your DHCP server, which doles out the IP addresses will have a client
name reported back to it when it leases an address. At the very least
you will have a MAC (Media Access Control) address and part of this
should identify that the reporting machine is from Apple.

Hope this helps! bill
