Viewing Communications History WITH Notes

M

Maria P.

I need a view or report that will show me the entire communications history
for a business contact or account INCLUDING notes for each entry (the
"comments" box in a phone log entry or the body of the e-mail itself in an
e-mail message entry).

I can see the entire communications history for a given business
contact/account but it is only a summary line per item. I have been unable to
make it also show me the notes/comments associated with each of these items
(so that someone can read the entire history of communiations with the
particular contact or account).

Once I can display what I need, I will also need to send it to a printer (or
MS Word, or Excel).

Thanks for your help.

Maria:

I don't think you can do it -- strange, I know -- but we haven't figured out
a way without writing some VB script.

Thanks Lon. Coincidentally, I read your book before posting last week.

This morning I found a very round-about way to do this ... It's time
consuming but doesn't require a VB script. Here are steps for others you
might need them:

1. Go to Business Contact Manager reports
2. Select "Activity by Account" (or Activity by business contact)
3. Filter the report to get only the account(s)/contact(s) you want
4. Modify Report
5. Check the "comments" box (and uncheck whatever you don't want)
6. When the report refreshes, export to EXCEL
7. Now re-format in EXCEL so you can actually read this thing (landscape,
re-format comments column, etc).

Cool! Good workaround...

Thanks,

The problem that I have is that there are a bunch of #### in many of the
comment fields. I have set the field (in excel) to wrap, but it still shows
those symbols... any suggestions?

btw, most of those with the ### are emails... is there a limit to the number
of characters in an excel field?
