viewer / IE 6 problems HELP!

I am evaluating a network connected DVR (Digital Video Recorder)
The way it works is you assign it an IP address, then you use IE to
communicate with it by entering the device's IP in the address bar in
IE.
The first time you do this, the DVR automatically installs software in
to your computer,
a prprietary viewing app with a few functional controls and viewing
options which enable the PC to view cameras and control the DVR
parameters.
There is a log on window for username and password

The DVR apparently had an older version software, and although it
operated fine locally, the above feature was not functioning.
But I still had conducted the first session.

I was instructed to download a newer firmware version by the
manufacturer into the DVR which I did.

But I'm still have problems not connecting but once I log into the
DVR, the camera images are frozen (not real time) and clicking on
anything crashes IE, and I need to cntrl-alt-delete and stop the
program to get the PC going again, and I think it's the older app
which got installed into the PC. Which I believe is associated with
IE(6) (I don't know where it is actually, or how to find it, ro what
it's called)

Apparently it is not possible to uninstall IE6.
I wanted to uninstall it and re-install it then conduct the first
session again with the DVR so the newer version would be installed.
I only us IE6 for this DVR, so wiping out settings and history and all
the rest are of no consequence to me.
I do not wish to reinstall Windows XP pro if it is not required.
I am not comfortable doing this unless I have a step by step bullet
proof procedure, and I know it will definitely purge the IE6.
Open to suggestions

You need to give a little more details.
Which DVR are you using, what brand?
Since you are using IE you must be accessing the DVR from a remote location.
Are you on the same network, ie using a 192.168 ip address or are you
accessing it from the WWW?

It's made by SPECO it and my two PCs are on the same router.
The DVR's IP is http://71.173.102.91:100
I identified the add-on; it's Remote200Web.ocx
I tried to delete it; no change
then I disabled it; got an error msg that an add-on had been disabled
The factory says they can login to it, and they're in another state

I can start a session, but it locks up immediately. The usier
interface has a clock displayed and it runs about two seconds then
stops
the video is frozen. unable to navigate or do anything
..
you're welcomed to login. username=user p/w = 4321
You need to add this IP as a trusted site, non https, and enable all
the active-x under tools>Internet settings>security.
I'm still
trying things out here as time permits. It's a great learning
experience

I was able to access it ok, so it is working. The problem looks like your
pc. Go to my website and download my FixIE tool and run that, see if it

One of the cameras is out of focus because I left the special toll to
open it, in my truck at work.
one camera is aimed next door at my neighbor. It is anight vision
camera. the last camera is looking at a corner of my extremely sloppy
desk.

I'll report back after I try what you suggest.

your software ran but didn't resolve my issues maybe it's related to
my network, which is only two PCs and the DVR plugged into the DI-604.

It could also be a bandwidth issue. You said it works ok locally, when you
use the web interface accessing it from http://71.173.102.91 you are going
outside your router, through the world wide web to you ISP, back through the
world wide web no telling how many hops then back through your router and to
your DVR. Try connecting to it using the internal DVR IP address, type it
into your browser address field i.e. http://192.168.0.xxx see if that
works.
