view source ?

H

Henry Kolesnik

Something odd has happened to my IE6 under Win XPH. I used to open a
website, click on View, then Source and move over to File and click on
Notepad to look at the source. Over at Tools, Internet Options, Programs my
HTML Editor is Notepad but it no longer appears under File like it used to.
What do I do to get it back and what did I do to lose it?
tnx

Hi Henry :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Clearing the TIF Cache -

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files

View Source Not Working in Internet Explorer (All Windows)
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1246/
or
Source Code Is Not Displayed When You Click Source on the View Menu in
Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];306907

Line: 183. View Source Restore Notepad as Default

There has also been some reports that Quick View Plus can cause this
problem.
See the below links for further information if required:-

and/or

Also, if you have a shortcut to Notepad on your desktop rename it to Npad.

Some people have reported that Quick View Plus can cause this. See this
site for a fix for that:

or....

View-Source protocol is broken in XPSP2

Typing "view-source:http://microsoft.com/" in the address bar should bring
up the source in notepad. It just doesn't work anymore in IE with XPSP2,
instead giving a "page cannot be displayed" error.

b.. A forum thread for reference
Perhaps this was intentional -- if so, why isn't it documented here or here

First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content.) It's often recommended that the TIF
folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

If you have a shortcut to Notepad.exe on the desktop, rename it.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
