View Fax

Hello,

I have windows xp home version in an emachine, 2 gig processor, 80 gig hd,
256 megs of ram, yada dada...that has a built in fax. I started the program
because I needed to get a fax...no problem...fax came in...the program said
it was successful. Then when I try and view the fax from the inbox by double
clicking...it won't show up...nothing happens. But I see how many pages have
come, caller id number...everything. I can however print the fax and all the
pages will come out...but I want to view BEFORE I print, if I print at all.
Also this same fax rings everytime I have a phone call, even when the
program has been exited. In the past, if my fax program was not set up and
running, it didn't do anything...it was like any other program, it waited to
be called upon. Not this fax program though....short of turning computer
off...or deleting the thing,. I cannot make it STOP trying to answer my
phone. I have it set on manual answer, so it won't answer my phone, but I
still hear it ringing. Any ideas?

To answer your second question about exiting the Fax
application: In order to completely turn off fax, you must
stop the Fax Service. To do that, right-click "My
Computer" on your desktop and select "Manage". Expand
the "Services and Applications" node in the left pane and
click on "Services". Then right-click on the Fax entry in
the right pane and choose "Stop".

Note that once you have stopped the Fax service, you
cannot receive faxes. You have to go and restart the
service (just choose "Start" in the last step above) to be
able to start receiving faxes.

There are many causes for this problem. Most often, this problem arises
because some other imaging application that you installed has set itself as
the default viewer for TIF files. To view faxes from the Fax Console, the
Windows Imaging and Fax viewer must be your default viewer for TIF files.
You can easily restore that setting in Windows Explorer > Folder Options.
File Types. For most users the command line should read:

"rundll32.exe <drive>:\WINDOWS\system32
\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1"
Another common cause of this problem is firewall software's Trojan horse
rules. The most common is one that ships with Norton Internet Security.
