How do you view embedded control characters like for Bold, Font Type, Font
Size, etc.? WordPerfect let you see the embedded controls in-line with your
text. Doesn't Word let you do that?

Word has other ways to "reveal codes." Use the controls on the Formatting
toolbar (Word 2003) or the Home tab (Word 2007) to see the formatting
applied to text.

You'll find even more information if you press Shift+F7 to display the
Reveal
Formatting task pane.

Word does not let you see embedded formatting characters because Word does
not embed formatting. It uses a totally different model, with formatting
applied from up to three sources - character style, paragraph style and
direct formatting. "Reveal Formatting" shows you the most complete
information about this (Shift F1).
