Videos shutting down Power Point

Ever since I picked up my new Dell M1210 laptop with Vista Home, I
have had nothing but problems with Power Point 2007. My main use for
the laptop is doing presentations. Biggest challenge is imbedded
videos. WMF files will error out and shut down the PPT. Other types
will tend to play audio with no picture. I have loaded new codecs,
tried various support lines. No one has had a solution. Any ideas??
(By the way, I can play all of the videos outside of power point with
no problem)

Hi

A few thoughts:
- make sure you have a local printer driver installed regardless of whether
you have a physical printer or not (http://pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm). I know
it sounds crazy but trust me, this resolves a great many 2007 issues.
- have a read of this: http://www.playsforcertain.com/tutorial.htm
- make sure you have short paths to the videos that aren't showing pictures
- there's a freebie called g-spot that will identify missing codecs so you
can downlaod them
- use playsforcertain to insert the videos :)
- make sure you have the latest driver for your video card (you'll have to
get this from the dell website not the card manufacturer's)

That should get you started. If you are still having problems post back with
as much detail as possible.

If its having a problem with WMV I (going out on a limb) would almost bet
that other media software has been installed that has changed the system
settings/codecs/filters. The first thing I would do is download and
reinstall Windows Media Player. While not used directly in PPT,
reinstalling it should help to correct the system settings.
