Videos crash my machine

Trying to play videos from the Internet using Windows Media Player 10. WMP
display shows up on the monitor but within one or two seconds the computer
locks up solid. Have to hit the reset button. Tried WMP 11 same results.
Back to WMP 10. No good. Uninstalled WMP and reinstalled several times.
Same result. Tried WinAmp. No difference. System restored to a much
earlier system check point. Still no good. Any ideas what I need to do?

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be) there is a menu item on the MS WMP
versions that goes something like "go on the Internet and find associated
Codecs". I only use WinAmp so I couldn't tell you.

start, pause and eventually crash. - Mobeus

Hi!

Please, note this finding of mine, which may, or may not, be valid also on
your case ...

When facing the crash/stuck problem with WMP11, and about the same also with
WinDVD4 and RealPlayer10, playing DVD videos and net videos/clips, after a
thorough investigation/troubleshooting I located the problem on my case to be
residing somewhere on the memory stick area, or, maybe on the display
circuit/card area.

On my case there was in question an AMD Athlon 2000+ machine with an
integrated nVidia display circuit and 2x256MB (no pair) sticks, but after
replacing these sticks with 1x512MB the problem was gone! yes, I hope it's
gone and thruth ...

As an assumption, there may have been some kind of very slight problem on the
memory bus or 2x256MB internal speeds, or, maybe on the display card
throughput
capabilites, which popped up first on the extreme load requirements of the
DVD/video playing, as the machine had been functioning all well a long time
before this DVD/video playing need did get actual and the problem arising ...

Best regards,

Pete V.
