Video OK Audio really bad.

When I load .wmv files (converted from .mpg files) the video is fine but the
audio is broken up badly. I am not able to load .mpg files directly so am
unable to see if the problem exists with those files. The .mpg files are
fine, both video and audio, with my Sony 'Picture Motion Browser' software.
Has anyone any suggestions?

Try using Windows Media Encoder to convert
the .mpg files and maybe the result will be better.

How do I convert other video file formats to WMV?

Thanks for that. Did not work. No audio at all using windows media encoder. I
am beginning to suspect that I do not have the necessary codec. XP video
decoder checkup utility tells me that all N have is Nero DVD decoder, Nero
Video Decoder, Ulead mpeg Video Decoder and Ulead DVD Video decoder, none of
which, it says, are suitable. Can anyone comment?

Welcome to the frustrating world of video editing.

If you get no audio with Windows Media Encoder
the original file may be corrupted and that could
account for the original problem you had in Movie
Maker.

Try converting the file with the freeware SUPER
and maybe you will have a better result:

SUPER © Simplified
Universal Player Encoder & Renderer
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER
(the mirror download site is faster)

The freeware VLC Media Player should be able to
play your MPEG files.

VLC Media Player

And finally...if you really want to install codecs...the
following free package may be worth a try.

CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack)

Good Luck...

Thanks John for your suggestions.
Not having much success. I have been looking further and have discovered more.
My clips converted to .WMV files from .JPEG will play in WMP OK but when
imported into WMM the video is fine but the audio is badly broken up. Trying

Maybe it would be worth a try to update
the driver for your sound card.

use Gspot or avicodec to find out which codec the audio is.
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/avicodec.html
Where did the original file come from?
It's possible the audio codec is one which doesn't work well with mm, or the
conversion app you've used, and the only way to get round it is trial and
error to find the right app to convert it.

Thanks for that. Having investigated further I find that The audio is bad
when the clip is run from the edit area of wmm but the audio is ok when the
clip is put into the storyboard area and run. Although there are several
codecs in my machine gspot does not show any associated with WMP. I would
like to know where I can get compatible codecs.

G

Sorry about that. I meant Video Decooder Checkup shows no codec compatible
with WMP.

you need to use my post and find out which codec has been used to compress
it.
