video files and Explorer crash

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the correct group to post to but suddenly
I've noticed that whenever Windows Explorer or My Computer has a folder open
that contains video files (avi) the program always crashes with the error
message "the instruction at xxxxxx3397 referenced memory at 00x00000000 the
memory could not be written". This happens every time and it has just
started out of the blue.
The consistency is that the last 4 digits in the first instruction is ALWAYS
3397 and the second number is always 00x00000000. I've tried doing a system
restore but that hasn't helped. I'm like to know why this is happening and
how I can make it stop.
I'm using WindowsXP
Thanks.
