Video File (AVI) Problem

I'm in the process of converting by VHS movie collection to DVD's. I'm using
Pinnacle Version 8. I capture my video through a TV/Capture card. I capture
in AVI format so that the quality loss is minimal. This in turn creates
20/30 gigabyte size files. I use Pinnacle to edit/render the file and burn
to a disc. The problem I'm having is once I'm done and have my DVD burned, I
have problems deleting the original AVI file. I open up the drive and using
Windows Explorer. When I click on the file so I can delete it, Explorer will
crash (display an error message and close). This only happens when I try to
access large video files. I have found the only way I can delete these files
is to open up a "cmd" window use "cd" to change to the directory where the
AVI files are stored and then delete using the "del" command. Has anyone
ever seen this problem before? If so, how did you fix it. As I explained, I
have a work around using the "cmd" window. I'd just like to know what's
causing this problem.

I'm not an expert but I have used Pinnacle(version 9)and its capture
card to successfully convert a few VHS tapes to DVD's. After I was
done, I deleted the files with no problem. I use Window XP home if that
possible could have any bearing on it. Sorry I can't offer more help.

gerry close all programs and then try to delete it, if that doesn't work
reboot and try again. I have that problem when i have certain prgrams running.
