Are there any freeware (or other) apps that allow the user to delete
sections of videos? (And ideally, that lets you combine clips with similar
stats?) Many thanks.

If you want to edit AVI's use Virtual Dub at www.virtualdub.org

If you want to edit MPG's use TMPGenc at
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html

There is a freeware version and a pay version of TMPGenc. The free
version handles MPG1 whereas the pay version will also handle MPG2.


Both programs are excellent and will let you edit and combine.

Windows XP MovieMaker2 is excellent for cutting and combining DV-AVI
and wmv/asf files. The Windows Media File Editor (part of Windows
Media Encoder) can split wmv/asf files.
