I updated my NVIDIA video driver using Windows update.
After theupdate the monitor would not properly display.
An error message said that there was a problem with the
NVIDIA driver. I reformatted my hard drive and
reinstalled Windows XP using the recovery CD that came
with my computer. The display problems still occur.

Wouldn't the reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling
XP get rid of any changes to the NVIDIA video driver?

It might be the updated driver. get the driver from the
Nvidia website and then try.

JDC,

The only problems I have ever had that I could blame on XP are the driver
updates. Go to the Mfr's web-site for your hardware and download drivers
from them.
