video driver failed to initialize 0x000000b4

R

ROY l.

I Was trying to find a suitable video driver for my video
Card because the driver that win2000 suggested keeps
defaulting to 800x600. It will not retain a 1024x768 or a
finer resolution. I tried a different driver from ATI.
When windows rebooted, I got the following message on Blue
Screen:

***Stop: 0x000000b4 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000
0x00050000)
"The video driver failed to initialize"

Then it performs a physical memory dump.

It won't boot into safe mode, vga mode, last known good
configuration,
anything. It gives the same error. The only way I can get
it to a command
prompt was to put a disk in to the CD drive and reboot.

I tried switching video cards, an I/O fix on microsoft's
website, everything I
can think of.

Microsoft KB 240369 & 319120 will not work

Operating system: Windows 2000 Professional SP4 / Video
Card - ATI Technologies 3D Rage IIC AGP/ Alternate video
Card - 3DFX video card Voodoo3/

Thaks for all your help

Hello Ken,

I repaired installation using both Fast method and manual
repair still getting:
"The video driver failed to initialize"

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Many Thanks.

Perhaps use the recovery console to remove the video
files? Would you know which files to remove?

Thanks

I like to try your suggestion of using recovery console to
remove video files but I dont know what files to remove..

My video card is: Cirrus Logic 5446 Compatible Graphics
adapter.
I also have a back-up card: 3DFX video card Voodoo3.
