video becomes choppy when moved from collection to story board

I recorded video on my Cannnon Z90. It was transfered using firewire. In
the collection mode I can play the clips fine but when I drag them down to
the story board both the video and audio becomes choppy. Any suggestions as
to what to do?

The preview window is not designed to give you a preview of the actual final
resolution and video quality.
If it were to do that the program would need to actually take the time to
render your project before previewing which would defeat the whole purpose
of previewing to begin with.
The quality of your final finished movie should not be choppy.
