Video & Audio out of sync

Hi, I hope someone can help me as Im pulling my hair out.

I have been using powerdirector to edit my home movies - as soon as I
convert it to mpeg 2 or 1 on my computer and then view it - i notice that the
sound and audio arent syncronized.

After trying for 2 days to get it to work, I then imported my file (in sync)
into win movie maker.
edited the files again - all totally in sync - then produced a file as
dv-avi pal - when I rerun it - again the sound and video are out of line. Its
an hour long video, and by the end its loads out.

What is causing this - and how can I fix it

thanks
Ronnie

1. Interfering background processes while encoding

2. Input in highly compressed format such as WMV

3. Low system resources

Try to eliminate these and try again.

1. Interfering background processes while encoding

IE: Shutdown any TSR programs running in the background. If there are a lot
of icons next to the system clock then there are a lot of programs running
in the background which take up memory.
2. Input in highly compressed format such as WMV

What's the original filetype(s) used in the project?
Also it is best, since the end result you wish for is aparently a DVD, to
save the movie in DV-AVI format.
3. Low system resources

#1 should solve most of this problem. One more thing to do is to disable
your screensaver if it is enabled.
Try to eliminate these and try again.

I recommend once you take the steps above and tell WMM to save your movie
that you walk away from the computer and don't touch it. Doing any
multi-tasking can very quickly use your system resources and cause the
problem again.
