VIA USB 2.0 Driver

Ok... maybe I am the newbie but what is up with WinXP
lack of support for my VIA USB 2.0 controller?

I built my PC and bought the OEM version of WinXP Pro and
of course can not get any response from the Microsoft
jerks due to my product being an OEM product.

Someone hook me up with the info please.

USB 2.0 support was only introduced with SP1 not the original release of
XP...

I have played with lot's of USB 2.0 drivers I have had
the best luck with the ones from:

Hmn!

Whenever I have installed SP1, it has taken all of 8-10 seconds to update
the USB 2.0 drivers. Then a reboot to be certain it has been accepted.

You can right click on the USB device with the yellow exclamation mark and
choose "update driver", can't you? Don't assume you know more than the
system! Just allow it to search. I have never seen a failure to update when
done this way.

Why would THEY be jerks because YOU bought OEM? It was your decision, not
theirs.

I did the "update driver" route on the yellow/black exclamation point'ed
"advanced USB controller," that appears halfway down device managers
hardware tree, (i.e. not grouped with the normal USB hub at the bottom of
the tree), and got various hiccups, mainly it couldn't find the files
usbehci.sys and the others, there are 4 files in the USB 2.0 driver stack,
if memory serves. ...may have got that filename wrong as well - am going
from memory. Tried more approaches than I care to remember - got fed up
with trying to find out exactly what the correct installation procedure
should and would be. Spent ages on the web - like trying to get blood out
of a stone finding information on the problem. Tried manually ripping the
driver stack files out of the winzip/SP1.cab directory that gets stuffed in
along with the rest of SP1a, and then pointing repeatedly XP driver update
at them...they do go in after a fight.

Some other motherboard manufacturers make USB2.0 driver update/installs
pretty simple, i.e. they write their *.inf file properly, and yes it
normally only takes a few seconds - NOT so on those damned Asus A7V8x-x
boards. Mind you that was a while ago, perhaps Asus have tweaked things up
a bit

Around that time I installed three other motherboards, (not Asus), I think
one of those machines had XP Pro stuffed into it, SP1 slipstreamed in at the
same time, and USB2.0 drivers went in without a fight.

I just set an Asus A7V-266e for a friend. Had no problems at all with USB
2.0 and an add-in card.

I have also built about 20 systems around the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. This board
has built-in USB 2.0. Again, I had no problems setting up USB 2.0 in Windows
XP. Are you downloading SP1 in it's entirety. It's a 130 meg download. That
is the only one I use. It installs it all!
