VGA to S-video cable

Hey folks,

I have an ASUS P4R800-VM motherboard with built-in ATI9100 chipset and
have been having a bitch of a time getting the "optional" tv-out module for
the video. This thing is to be a dedicated HTPC system.

This may not be the most appropriate place for my question, but you ATI guys
seem to be most knowledgeable.

I got myself a VGA to S-video adapter cable thinking that I could adjust the
VGA display settings such that the S-video connection would work with my TV.
Turns out this is not so simple. Here are the specs for NTSC (as I'm sure
most of you are aware): http://www.mivs.com/technical/appnotes/an003.html

Does anyone know how to force the VGA driver settings into spitting out a
signal that will work with such a cable?

Thanks,

Dave

Hmm. Thats not gonna work, at all.

You'll need something like this:

No... it's completely different signals.

To run a TV off a VGA port you need a device called a "transcoder". The
cheapest transcoder I know of is from grandtec <http://www.grandtec.com/>
and I've never used it so have no idea how well it works or if it works at
all. You'll also have to set the display resolution to something that the
transcoder can deal with--640x480 is the first one to try.
