OK javascript does some strange things, FP navigation does some too but this
is a new one on me.

A site www.metta.org.uk works reasonably well BUT in IE6 on certain machines
(inc mine now) one sub web navigation link does not show up and when
entering the sub web the top and left side navigation does not show at all
nor do database elements in that sub web???

http://www.metta.org.uk/home.asp - The SMALL ADS link is missing between the
square brackets at the top. The REGISTER HERE link is missing between [
and ] within the right border. These links are to pages within the sub web
at
http://www.metta.org.uk/ads/

All was working in IE6 with all updates and still works in IE5 etc but
something is very odd seems to be happening on a limited number of machines
only.

Can anyone shed any light on this????

Thanks
M

Hi
I tried turning off all firewalls and rebooting, no change this whole sub
web is being hidden/messed up? I tried accessing with Real Player 1 on the
same PC and the ads sub web is hidden in the same way.

Renaming the sub web it would be a big job and would loose all search engine
and external links to it. I might make a copy to a new sub web and see how
that is!?!?!?!

Thanks for your suggestions

Hi OK tried publishing sub web to a new name "small" and the navigation has
returned but..... all form content and all database content is not showing
up. IT is as though it is there but there is no text. Some links are
missing.

I could post some screen shots. This is the oddest problem I have ever
seen!!!

Don't post screen shots

Post a page link and explain the problem

I see your forms and pages in http://www.metta.org.uk/ads/ads.asp

FYI
many users will get blocked by that folder name

OK, thanks. So where do I find what is being blocked/censored by
microsoft/others and make sure it does not form part of any web sites?

I feel like going into a rant, a very serious one but that would not help to
solve a serious problem!

So do I on a number of machines, but on one here there is a problem and a
number of users are reporting similar problems seeing links to and within
the ads sub web. Even changing it from ads to something else only partially
cures the problem highlighted at http://www.MettaWeb.com/errors.htm

I deed to cure this problem and it would be nice to know if "ads" has become
a censored/banned internet file name/folder name or whatever!!!?

Thanks for your responses
M

Ad and Popup blocks use a number of different methods to try and block popups/ads. Some authors
provide a list of the words they look for on their web site, other don't.

I would suggest that you avoid using the follow words in file or folder names:

banner
banners
ad
ads
popup
popups

Also some block by size of the image (std ad banner sizes) or popup window size.

Norton, MacAfee, Zone Alarm and several other Internet Security/firewall
applications or ad blockers will block any images or pages that have ad,
ads, advert, adverts, banner, banners or similar words in their filenames or
paths.

So do I on a number of machines, but on one here there is a problem and a
number of users are reporting similar problems seeing links to and within
the ads sub web. Even changing it from ads to something else only
partially cures the problem highlighted at
http://www.MettaWeb.com/errors.htm

I deed to cure this problem and it would be nice to know if "ads" has
become a censored/banned internet file name/folder name or whatever!!!?

Thanks for your responses

Thank you to everyone for your offerings and suggestions!

I have, after many phone calls to just about everyone I know (and don't
know) discovered that it is caused by Norton AntiSpam software. So now have
no choice but to change the sub web name, all links to it and some within
it! Hope that Search engines find the new web and all pages and rank
accordingly as before!!! Add redirects to the new area... A nightmare is
brewing.

It is with considerable resentment towards spammers, but, even more towards
Norton/Symantec for being so ham fisted and using a sledge hammer to crack a
nut! All be it a large and irritating nut.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
