Very slow boot up of PC since installing Norton Antivirus 2006

Since installing Norton Antivirus 2006 my PC is taking five to six minutes to
boot up. I use defragmenter regularly and have 25Gb of a 40Gb hard disk
unused. Any ideas how I can speed things up?

Uninstall Norton Antivirus 2006.

Turn off the default startup scan Norton likes to put in place.
You got JUST the AntiVirus - right?

I have the same problem but can't find any way to turn off the startup
scan - I can't even find out if there is such a thing. Help!!
