Very long Shutdown time XP Pro w/Service Pack 2

AzTom

Shutdown starts normal, even goes through the Windows is shutting-down phase
(in about 30 seconds) then it goes to a solid blue screen for five or more
minutes before finally shutting-down. Shutdown takes anywhere from 6
minutes to infinity at which point I kill the power. Any and all help
greatly appreciated

Next time you're ready to shut down, try this:

Before going to Start>>Turn Off Computer-

Open a Command Prompt window

Enter the following:

net stop spooler

after it's done, close the window
then shut down normally and let us know if it made
any difference.

Long shutdown times are indicative of processes still active.
Before shutting down, check for running applications by using
Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Sometimes, a network connection may also be
involved. Has the network connection been terminated? Or the
mapped drive disconnected? If nothing unusual is determined,
then there may be suspicion for malware.

You don't know it takes to infinity to shut down. You'd have to wait
that long to find out, eh..;-)
