Very annoying Standby problem

Hi all,

I have a HP Pavilion zt3350EA, and it arrived with Windows XP Home. I
wanted the features such as Remote Desktop, and so formatted to XP Pro. The
install CD I got from work was not slipstreamed with SP2. Before installing
SP2, I did not put the system into Standby, so I don't know if it is a
problem from the standard install.

As the system is now, with SP2 and all updates up to now, when I attempt to
put the system into Standby, it appears to do so as the dialogue "Preparing
to Standby" appears, the system closes off and the Power LED flashes as it
used to with XP Home. But when I touch the mousepad which wakes the system
up, it boots as though it had been shut down, therefore not being as speedy
as I like with the Standby resume, and also using up more power from the
battery if on DC power. After the unusual startup, I am then prompted with
the "Locked Computer, enter Password to unlock system blah blah..."
dialogue, which makes me even more confused.

I would appreciate speedy responses as I am due to go away on Thursday, and
will require the system's Standby function during the 6 hour car journey.
(And don't worry, I'm getting a cab!)

Cheers,

Neil

Try updating the drivers for your computer. Get them from HP's website
for your specific model machine. In addition to the drivers, see if
there is any power management software and is so, download and install
it.

Malke,

Thanks for the reply. I installed the Intel Chipset InfUpdate (Although it
was dated back in 2003), and rebooted. After the laptop had booted, I
prompted to shutdown, but upon wiggling the mouse, the same thing occurred -
The system booted as though it was a cold start. There was also no Power
Management software listed on the HP driver website.

Thanks,

Neil

I may not be right in thinking this, but what you describe seems like you
have the screensaver active and set to 'wait X minutes, and "On resume
display Welcome screen' is checked. When you say it 'boots as though it had
been shutdown' do you mean it goes through the whole boot process,
displaying the Windows Logo screen, POST, etc, then to the Welcome screen,
where the login boxes are displayed? Or does it resume and go straight to
the computer locked, enter password, etc. screen?

It starts as if I have pressed the Power button - BIOS Spalsh > Windows
Loading > (But then) "PC has been locked...)

I do have the screensaver set to about 2 minutes, but I don't use the
Welcome Screen, I use the Dialogue Box type login.
