Verifying DMI Pool Data problem

P

Pol Vrsalovic

I've got Maxtor 541DX 5400 U ATA 100, and SOYO SY6BA+IV motherboard. When I
put my HD in IDE 33 slot I can boot my windows, but when I switch to IDE
that is suporting ATA66 everything stops when 'Verifying DMI Pool Data'
appears. I find some solutions on MAXTOR home page but it didn't help.
Anyone knows solution
Thanks in advance.

Are you using a UDMA 66/100/133 compliant cable e.g 80 wire 40 pin?

What OS?
If it's WinNT/2k/XP, you'll need to load the ATA66 drivers before the OS,
[it's a Hardware Abstraction Layer thing].

Shouldn't matter for Win9x, [although to get the benefits from the ATA66
chipset, you'll need to load the drivers once in Windows].

Mr Toad,

Didnt know that - what if the OS is already loaded (XP Pro) and you move to
ATA? Thinking of doing just that when I upgrade in a month or so. Wasn't
planning to wipe out and reload everything (again).

I've never heard of anyone doing this successfully, [can't say it's
*never* been done, I just haven't seen it done...].
When you load the OS for the first time, you'll get a prompt at the
bottom of the screen to "Press F6 for 3rd party/SCSI drivers" or
something similar, that's when you need the ATA66's driver floppy.

You might want to peruse these articles, maybe they have an answer for

Many thanks for that - yeh I've seen that message at the bottom of the
screen before. Looks like a reload coming up. Not a bad thing tho - will
ensure all the new kit gets the right drivers. Have a good one, Shawk.

'Verifying DMI Pool Data' comes up before the OS loads.

80 conductor cable required for ATA66/100/133 (as already mentioned).
Blue plug on the cable goes to the motherboard,
Black plug goes to the primary drive.
Grey plug in middle goes to 2nd drive.
Drives jumper pins should usually be set to "Cable Select".
Red stripe on cable marks PIN-1.

Also: Try to enter the BIOS setup and set "Reset Configuration Data" to
"Enabled".
Hope this helps...
