Abit IC7-Max Help!!!!

Hi

I need a bit of help with the set up of my IC7-Max3 Mobo!
I have a P4 3.2Ghz Cpu and 1Gb RAM installed.
Just reinstalled WinXP Pro but the when the PC reboots after install the
Boot process halts at
"Verifying DMI Pool Data" and says "NTLDR is Missing".

My hdd drive/dvd rom set up is as follows -

IDE Ch1 Master - DVD ROM
IDE Ch1 Slave - DVD Writer
IDE Ch2 Master - MAXTOR 6L080J4
IDE Ch2 Slave - MAXTOR 6L080J4
IDE Ch3 Master - Maxtor 6Y080M0 - Windows installed to this drive connected
to SATA 1 on the Mobo
IDE Ch4 Master - Maxtor 6Y080M0

It is obviously something to do with the bios settings as I installed
Windows smoothly! The setup even saw all drives as they were connected. I
have probably altered something in the bios settings but I don't really know
what!!

Windows like I said installs smoothly - once I login for the first time and
reboot this is when it fails - I have now installed this three times - twice
with XP Pro and once with Media Centre and it gives the same error!!

Please Help ME!!!!! Could someone please tell me the way I should have the
settings set! Hope this makes sense!!

Thank you all in advance

Becky - You need to go into BIOS setup screen and check two boot sequences.
The First one should read something like:
CD-Rom
HDD
Floppy
Other
Note that CD-Rom is first and HDD (hard disk drive) is second

The other boot sequence should list the order of hard drives to check. It
should look something like:
SATA1
SATA2
IDE2
IDE1

I suspect this is where your problem is. You've probably got IDE drives
listed first, so no ntldr is found. -Dave

Hi

Thanks for the answer!!!! - I have managed to get it to work - but the
windows drive is now E drive and it cannot be changed as the application in
Control Panel won't let me rename the C drive!

I have successfully installed Windows Media Centre! Is there a way round
this?

Thank you again

Snip<

Check in BIOS setting regarding SATA controller Mode, often has
different modes such as AUTO, PATA + SATA etc.

No proven safe way to change boot partition letter short of complete a
reinstall with only that drive connected...
