Verbatim DVD+RW

D

David Carmichael

First I use two programs to burn my DVD+R/RW disc's.

Over the weekend I had a strange thing happen..
[Shortly after the latest Patches to WindowsXP were loaded
into my system??]

Data burned to "Verbatim DVD+RW" stopped being read in my set-top
DVD player.
[Older disc are still readable?!?]

The disc's work just fine in my PC and I can use the DVD+RW as a
"master" so that once I know that I do not have audio sync
troubles.. I can copy the DVD+RW to a DVD+R and these disc's will
play back just fine on the set-top box.

I have a few "Memorex DVD+RW" disc's and they still work just
fine....

Have the "Verbatim DVD+RW" disc's gone bad?

I have tried a number of "FRESH OUT OF THE WRAPPER" "Verbatim
DVD+RW" disc's and none of them seem to want to work in my
set-top box....????

System background:
Athlon 1700+ 1gb [two 512meg] PC133 memory
_NEC 1100a DVD+R/RW

Software:
Cyberlink: PowerProducer V2.0
Nero-6 [Latest version's 9/8/03]

--David

PS: I have also noticed that both of my software programs will
'erase' DVD+RW disc's.. but "IF" I erase in one program the other
program still sees the disc as having data and has to be erased
again.????

Some times the reflextion from a RW is not enough (it may stop half way).
I have this problem with some old RW+ in one player, and it seems if I leave
it for say 5 minutes AFTER I burned, it will play.
Something needs to settle it seems.
RW reflects less light then a normal R.
Perhaps the Verbatim is just below the threshold.
Bring them back, and stick with a make you know it works.
As time goes by laser power will decrease, dust will acculmulate, dirty spots
on DVD+RW, and problem MAY get worse.

Are you saying that I need to let the DVD+RW "Cool Down" before
placing them in a Stand-Alone-Set-Top-DVD player?
You might have a point there because I have been taking the
disc's right out of the burner and placing them in the player for
testing with no "Cool Down" time between the two.

Hi, not sure that is for all disks, but absolutely true for the Philps DVD+RW I have.
This is an old one, and it is only on one DVD player (Cyberhome 405),
on Mustek 562 it is OK.
But indeed SOMETHING changes in the first few seconds...
Not temperature I think, same effect with burning a small test VOB -never
got very hot, short time in in the burner-, but it -could- be temperatue.
No idea what it is.

My CD burners (laptop and desktop) have started having
problems since I installed the new security release
(KB824146). I get an error message that there is no
media in the drive. I'm also having a problem with my
laptop ejecting the disk (I've had to use the reliable
paper clip). Maybe there is a connection. Anyone else
having problems. I have a Ricoh MP7120A in my desktop
that has operated perfectly until now.

I find it strange that this troubles with the Verbatim DVD+RW
disc's only started after the Microsoft service patch that was
installed on my XP system on Friday Night!!!

Verbatim DVD+RW disc's burned on Thurs playback in the "405B"
just fine!?!
Cyberhome states that the "405" should read and playback
DVD-/+R/RW disc's.

Try usimg nero 6 an dturn multisession off an dthen it will play in
both your dvd player an drom drive. If it still doesn;'t work maybe
something wrong with your dvd player or it could just be it doesn't
really care for dvd plus media. try nero 6 first and turn the multi
session thingy off first.

If you had read my first posting you would of seen that NERO-6
was one of the software packages that I am trying to use... and
when you burn a DVD-VIDEO format you are not given the option of
" multisession".
[Or at least not on my system!]

But thanks for trying to help..

I did some reading in the cyberhome forum some days ago because of this.
There ARE firmware updates, that you can get from support it seems.
I am a bit scared (it seems it can go wrong), and not sure this will help in this case.
It does not hurt to ask in that forum however.
But it is a German forum:
http://www.cyberhome-europe.de
Perhaps (I dunno where you are) there is also one for Engish?
For the others, the cyberhome 405 is pretty good, 5.1 analog out, cheap (67 Euro or so),
and DOES play other DVD+R and DVD+RW as well as my old CVD's.
I bought it or the 5.1 analog out...

Again Thanks for the reply.. but again.. the option is not there
on my copy of Nero6 under 'DVD Video'.. it is there under
'DVD-ROM ISO, UDF, ISO/UDF'
So why would turning it off under these options effect a
'DVD-Video' disc?
??
