VC++6.0 Won't Install

D

dbo

System:

Clean XP Pro Sp1a. 256MB memory, 1000MB swap (set big to
help troubleshoot "out of memory" install error).

I am trying to install my 1998 era Universal Subscription
Dev Studio VC++6.0 and the installation just won't work.

I've tried a variety of workarounds:

Downloaded (discontinued) MS Java VM and installed it to
keep the installer from loading an old one.

Downloaded MDAC 2.8 and installed to make sure that stuff
is good to go.

As a last ditch I even wiped the disk, loaded W98SE,
installed VC++, and then re-loaded XP on top of that --
this is my current OS setup.

Right now, I can use it simply by copying the VC++ DLLs to
the XP System32 folder and hooking the MSDEV shortcut --
it works but I don't like the broken install...

Any clues??

Must be your setup. I've installed bothe VC6++ and the entire VS6
Enterprise Suite and run all the programs without any problems.

An update:

I replaced my hard drive with a huge NTFS disk and all my
install problems went away.

Odd.
